Lissajous Spirals

John Whitney inspired shapes

In 1958 John Whitney collaborated with Saul Bass to create the titles for Alfred Hitchcock's Vertigo. To create the iconic title sequence he used a Lissajous curve algorithm to create beautiful spirals. As a homage to the beauty of these forms I created a small piece of software that generated similar spirals. The colour palette is created by sampling colour information from the frames of Hitchcock's masterpiece.
